Syed Tanvir Ahmed
Hey guys! This is Tanvir. I was born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I started to do Model UN back in 2014, and have since fell completely in love with it. My first appearance was at Bangladesh Model United Nations 2014. Luckily I won the Best Delegate award in my first MUN. Maybe I have been gifted with great luck by the Almighty. Because, I then went on to win three consecutive awards in my first three Model United Nations conferences. I won the Outstanding Delegate award at Dhaka University National Model United Nations 2014. In January, I got the opportunity to represent St. Joseph Higher Secondary School at Harvard Model United Nations 2015. I won the Outstanding Delegate award from Non-Governmental Organization committee. After attending Harvard MUN, I went to attend Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference 2015, hosted at Perth, Australia. I really love public policy and thinking about ways to make the world better, and there really is no better avenue for that than Model UN.
Outside of Model UN, I love sports. I am a sports freak. I love to travel, meet new people, taste new cuisines and explore different cultures. I love new adventures. Scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef is the best thing I have ever done!
Sariha Nazifa Nawal
Hi! This is Sariha, a graduate from Oxford International School (OIS) and the founder of the OIS MUN Club there. I am getting my LLB degree from London College of Legal Studies (South) and planning to study abroad in the future on International Relations or Globalization and International Development in the future.
I am an enthusiastic French learner and a passionate MUNer. In my free time I tend to turn into a bookworm (currently munching over ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’) and love travelling (mission: Europe Tour!). I caught the MUN virus back in 2012 and it was love at first sight. My greatest achievements so far were Chairing AMUNC 2015 and 2016 in Australia, Chairing in GSMUN 2015 in Turkey, NTUMUN 2015 in Singapore and KIITMUN in 2015 and 2016.
If I had one dream, it would be spreading the knowledge of MUN all over Bangladesh so that not only they have the chance to participate in international MUNs but also have the necessary skills to achieve the awards as well.
What is MUN?
Model United Nations, also popularly known as MUN is a practical simulation of the UN itself. It is a platform where students play the role of a delegate representing a nation and showcase their diplomatic skills, negotiates and debates over a certain agenda that is given by the respective committees. A MUN can be organized by an organization, school, college or university. Moreover, students can learn about the international relations, enhance their public speaking skills, teamwork, critical thinking and learn how the UN sessions run. The general structure of the United Nations is reproduced: the main organs and committees are represented; delegates impersonate a country in their own committee and adopt their country’s position about a specific topic. Debating whether in formal debate, moderated or un-moderated caucus, delegates exchange and negotiate in order to write, vote and pass a final resolution, aiming at proposing solutions to the international stakes underlain by the topic.
